My Favorite Family Halloween Costume ideas

Halloween has always been my top 3 favorite days of the year. The haunted houses, pumpkin patches, scary movies and costumes just warm my heart. October definitely softens the blow the harsh Chicago winters the directly follow the fall. Now that I have a husband and child I'm even more hype to celebrate! It took me a long time and a lot of searching to choose our costumes (of course we are all dressing up) and in that time I saw a lot of costumes for families that I love.
Here are my favorites and possibly your next choice for Halloween!

Family Halloween Costume Ideas

1. The Flinstones - cute DIY for smaller families (1 or 2 children)
This was the runner-up behind the costumes we ultimately went with this year. I love this id

ea because it can work for couples with one boy or girl child. If you have a daughter, you all can dress up as the Flinstones: Fred + Wilma + Pebbles. If you have a son, you all can be the Rubbles: Barney + Betty + Bam Bam. I also love the fact that the adult costumes can be bought online at pretty much any costume store or easily made yourself. Hello DIY!
The only downside is that if you want a little Pebbles or Bam Bam costume you will either have to pay around $40 bucks to have it shipped to you from Etsy or Amazon or you'll have to make it yourself. These aren't sold on websites like Party City or Spirit Halloween.
This is a great idea for those of us who live in warmer climates or if you plan to do your Halloween partying indoors. Otherwise, invest in tights and fleshcolored long sleeves for your little ones.

2. The Incredibles - easy to find

Every time I see a family dressed up as the Incredibles I have to stop and stare. This is such a cute way to look amazing and have fun as a unit! These costumes are also very easy to find and they are unisex. In the movie, the three children are Violet, the oldest, Dash, the middle child and Jack-Jack, the adorable infant. Even if you have two girls and 1 boy or any combination of kids they can all participate. the whole family can easily participate.
These costumes are sold at most party stores, websites and of course, amazon.com.

3. Justice League -Bigger families
The just league characters are classics, which make them easily

recognizable, easy to find and fun to wear. The DC universe is large, which means there are endless combinations of characters you and your family can choose to be. Batman + Wonder woman + The Flash + Super baby or Green Lantern + Supergirl + Batman + Wonder baby. You get the picture! I've even seen babies dressed up as DC villains such as the Joker. Get creative!

Like the last few options, these are sold pretty much everywhere. A

lot of companies put their own spin on the costumes too so make sure you shop around. I've seen tons of variations of the kid's costumes for wonder woman and Batman. Last year, Baby P and I were both Superwoman. I got both of our costumes from Amazon

4. Rugrats - Expert Level DIY

If you can pull this off you are sure to rake in the 90's nostalgia likes! The only problem is that these costumes are not widely made/ sold in party or Halloween stores so break out the Jo-Ann Fabrics coupons and sewing machine! I truly aspire to have my life together enough to be able to pull something like this off but unfortunately, now all I can do is encourage you to go crazy and post tons of pictures! There are a lot of characters in the main cast to emulate, as well as supporting characters. Many of which are children with iconic outfits. If you do a great job, you might even go viral!

5. Ninja Turtles -endless possibilities
The ninja turtles might be the easiest option on the list. This is because there are so many variations of these costumes. You might

be thinking that all of the turtles are male so how can I, the mom, or my daughters participate? Well, if you want to put a feminine spin on the costume there are many sold with tutus or leotards to make them girly. Mom can even get the M.I.L.F look and get a sexy turtle costume from stores like Spencer's. Otherwise, mom and dad can dress up in Ninja turtle's T-shirts and matching masks while the full-blown costumes are left up to the kids. Check out Pintrest and Etsy for cute customized looks for girls or ways to make these your own. You could possibly avoid going full turtle shell if you want, but it is Halloween so go all out if you can!

So...
If you are looking for ideas make sure to check pintrest, think of your favorite movies and TV shows. A lot of costumes and supplies can be found for cheaper on Amazon.com or Etsy. Be sure to shop around and give yourself plenty of time to get it right. And last but not least, take plenty of pictures!
