Ways To Wear It: The Fall Transition

Fall is upon us! Chicago did not have a summer full of sweltering heat and humidity as per usual so it never quiet seemed that far off to me but either way as we approach mid September the weather is slowly changing and your wardrobe should be as well. At this time of the year we can reach 80 by day but only the upper 60's in the early morning and late night, which means it's time to break out our flats and light jackets. In this blog I will be showing you how I transition some of my summer pieces into early fall knockouts!
I'll also be showing you quite a few of my new fall pieces that I pick up during last week's labor day sales at various stores so be on the lookout for my great deals!

Look One:

Just a few short weeks ago a dress like this was an easy go to for those hot summer days when I had no clue what to wear! There is nothing like just throwing on a sun dress and being effortlessly cute. But this can also be a go to for early fall. I think this would be a nice look on those days that the high is only about 65-67 and there is a cool breeze.
To transition this to early to mid fall I simply wear it with tights, boots and a sweater. You can pretty much do this with any of your short summer dresses just be mindful of your color palette. Because the colors in this dress are dark I chose to wear black tights, boots and a long black cardigan.

I got this dress earlier this year from Forever 21 and I got the tights last year from Target.

This is a really casual look that is just as appropriate it is for work as it is comfortable and easy for lunch on a Saturday.

Look Two:

This is a slightly more dressy version of the first look. The fabric of this dress is very flowy and silky unlike the stretchy cotton of the first dress. Because this dress alone has a different feel I decided to wear high heel boots instead of flats.  This dress is black and white so you could wear boots and tights in a variety of colors and styles but I chose two basic looks. Black tights and my heeled "Staci" boots from Payless are a classic go to for fall dresses. If tall pumps aren't your thing you could try booties.
The wedge heel in these shoes makes them a lot more comfortable to walk around in for extended periods of time. I also like the versatility of this shoe. It looks just as good with a dress as it does with jeans.
You could further dress this look up by adding a fitter blazer, or go more casual by adding a moto jacket.

Look Three:

My final look is actually inspired from an outfit I saw on Pintrest that I found while looking for great examples of summer-fall transition clothes. I've never seen a maxi skirt paired with a long sleeve sweater for fall, I really loved how the skirt gives a pop of color and that the look is really tied together with the quilted bag. I had just picked up a similar sweater so I decided to give this a try.
In the summer months I usually wear this skirt with a white tank or tee-shirt, or my denim chambray shirt with the sleeves rolled up. I've only worn this skirt in the spring-summer months but I think it is fall worthy when paired with a sweater & flats or boots.
In the picture to the left I wore it with a black and white polka dot sweater from H&M, Mia flats and my Michael Kors cross-body bag.

You could also wear this with boots and tights in colder months.

I wasn't sure if I could pull this one off but it turned out to be my favorite of the three looks.

I hope you enjoyed my transition outfit ideas. Next up will be a Fall Fashions look book and guide to some of this seasons trends!
