Stroller show down: Graco Vs Summer Infant

In preparation for my New Orleans vacation with Baby P, I purchased a new umbrella stroller. During my search, which lasted quite some time before I settled, I realized that many parents often have more than one stroller. When registering for my baby shower I had no idea that this was the case. I figure that $300 travel system we received would be our stroller for this baby and the next but now I see that 1 is just not enough.
The Graco FastAction Jogger is a great stroller to have and we have used it a lot but our new Summer Infant 3D lite Convenience stroller is a game changer. Think of this as an upgrade to your $20 grocery store umbrella stroller.
Let's compare these two stroller to give you an idea of which may suit your life style better.

Stroller Showdown

The Cost

Cost is a major factor if you plan on purchasing a stroller for yourself rather being gifted one. In this category the Summer umbrella stroller wins by saving your a pretty penny. In most stores, this stroller has a price tag ranging $70-$90. You can always use a 20% off coupon for a discount at Buybuy baby or you can take the route I did. I found the stroller on Amazon and watched the price for about 2 months. The price changes on a daily, sometimes weekly, basis which takes dedication and the ability to buy at a moments notice. When I put the stroller on my wish list it was $60. I purchased it 2 months later for $41.
Like the Summer stroller, the Graco Jogger is sold at may stores but the price for this travel system is always around $250 or above. Outside of the fact that this is a larger, higher quality stroller, this stroller also comes with an infant car seat and car seat base so it is only natural that it costs way more than a fancy umbrella stroller. Even though this stroller is more expensive there is no reason to pay the full price of $300. Wait for a good sale and use a coupon if you can.

Size

The Graco jogger is the Cadillac of strollers, this puppy is huge! At 30lbs it can be a struggle to haul around, especially when it comes time to lift it into the trunk or bring inside our home. This is the main reason I looked to buy a stroller for our vacation. Even though the airline does not have a size/ weight restriction on strollers, I did not want to struggle with this large stroller along with all of my other bags. But on the plus side of this stroller's size it is very sturdy. I can tell that it will hold up and stand the test of time.
The Summer umbrella stroller is 13lbs! Which is 10lbs lighter than my 16 month old daughter! This is not the lightest umbrella stroller around but there are a few extra features on this stroller that you won't find on cheaper, lighter umbrella strollers.

Weight limit

Both of these strollers will last you and your child quite a while if they are kept up in good condition.
Even though the Summer Infant umbrella stroller only weighs 13lbs it, like the Graco jogger, claims to support the weight of a 50lb child. The average 4 year old weighs around 40lbs so you will be able to use both at least until then.

Stand out features

Both of theses strollers have their own assets that make them amazing and very useful strollers. Graco Jogger comes with the infant car seat and car seat base, which means you can use it from infancy well into the toddler years. The lard tire wheels make for a very smooth ride which is nice while cruising the mall but wonderful while jogging or walking outside. The large storage compartment is always useful, especially when you are shopping or carrying a larger diaper bag. But the best feature in my opinion is the large canopy.

The Summer 3D lite stroller has a smaller canopy and does not work for infant but it very compact. The carrying strap is an amazing feature that makes toting this very easy. The storage compartment is a plus, since many umbrella strollers do not have one at all. I really love the recline feature, your child can almost lay flat and take a great nap on the go.

Over all

I think both of these strollers are great to have. Either one will be very useful but maybe consider what you want out of the stroller long term. The Jogger is great for certain things but I think the size can be cumbersome. The Summer Infant stroller is also amazing but it lacks a lot of the features that make the jogger a stroller that can be used from birth. I will continue to use both of these. I think the Summer infant stroller will prove to be a great vacation stroller. Updates coming soon!
