Wedding Reception dress: Yay or Nay?

You may not be aware of this, but a lot of women are choosing to have an outfit change during their wedding day. The Reception Dress was a very controversial topic when it came to my wedding. I asked opinions, got varying responses and did a lot of research before I came to the decision to get one. Depending on the type of wedding and the gown you have you may want to consider getting one. Obviously I am in favor of them so here are my 5 reasons to get one.

1. Comfort

My wedding dress was a huge ball gown with a long train & Corset. I felt like the most beautiful bride while wearing it but after doing the first dance and eating I was hot, the dress felt tighter and I tired of dragging it around. To be honest, when I bought a second dress but I wasn't sure that I would actually wear it, I was bringing it just in case. When the night came I was so happy that I had something to change into. After I changed, I was able to easily navigate through tables to meet guests, dance and move more freely. I made sure all the important pictures were taken while I was still in the dress and after that I changed into my reception dress and flat sandals.

2. Keep your Gown Safe!

While everyone is drinking and dancing it is really easy to get something spilled on your dress, get it accidentally torn or damaged in some way. You can always get it cleaned and fixed afterwards but this is an added expense that you may not have the means to pay. To avoid this, you could simply change out of your dress before dinner or before the real dancing happens during the reception. This way you can relax and not worry about red wine being spilled on your dress or your train being snagged on someone's heel.

3. Let your Personality Shine!

If you go traditional with your gown, changing during the reception gives you a chance to present a completely different look. You can choose to wear another white dress but in a different style or you could go bold and wear something completely different. Maybe you don't want to wear a dress at all! It's completely up to you.

4. Set the Mood

This point plays off of my previous point. Your reception dress can change up your look but it can also really change up the vibe in the room and set the tone for the reception. My wedding dress was very traditional and pristine but my reception dress was very sexy & flirty. I wanted to get something that showed off my curves and gave my husband an idea of the what

the rest of the evening would be like (wink, wink!), so I went for a form fitting evening gown that showed a lot of cleavage. But you can do something fun or adventurous and help get the party started! A sequined party dress or a jumpsuit with a cape will knock the socks off of your guests.

5. Make new traditions and do you!

A lot of the kick back I received for changing my dress concerned remaining traditional and the fact that I should wear my dress as long as possible since I'd never wear it again. Those are very valid points but in all honesty you should make sure that you are comfortable and can enjoy your night the best you can. I know that I would have not had nearly as much fun had I kept on that ball gown ALL night, so I don't regret my decision at all. My advice is to do what you want to do and not worry what anyone else thinks!
