OOTW: Date Night

Here is my Valentines day look! (better late than never!)

Sometimes you just have a moment in the dressing room. You pick up a dress that looks like it has potential but could easily be a miss just as easily as it could be a hit. Then you try it on and the magic happens! This doesn't happen often. Even for someone who loves to shop like I do. So obviously I had to buy this dress when I had that magical moment and I'm glad I did. I was a knock out on valentines day and I did it all on a budget.

The Dress

This amazing dress is from Akira and it has all of the qualities a girl needs in a date night dress on a cold February night in Chicago. Midi length? Check! Fitted? Check! Sweater dress? Check. Backless? Optional, but Check!

Even though the sweater material is ribbed, which gives the monotone color some design, the dress is pretty plain. Normally you would rely on your accessories to spice it up but this dress has a secret weapon which is the back! Most girls could go bra-less in a number like this but I have a heavier chest so I chose to wear a bra. If Carrie Bradshaw can do it, I can too!! My advice is to make sure you wear a bra with a nice back. Mine is from Victoria's Secret. This isn't a bra that I wear every day. The back has nice sexy straps so it looks more like a part of my outfit and not undergarments.
My tights were also from Victoria's Secret. They are actually thigh highs (a bit thin & over priced but hot!)

The Shoes

I paired my Midi dress with booties. These are the perfect shoes to wear with a dress this length. You could wear strappy sandals as an alternative but like I said, I live in Chiberia and frostbite is real so I did not want my toes exposed. I spent nothing on the boots because I borrowed them from my mom. She picked up these Guess booties from Ross a while back for around $40.

The Accessories

Of course I went to my favorite place, Charming Charlie! I got my necklace and watch on clearance. Buy one get one FREE. The purse wasn't on sale but it was reasonable as usual. I chose to stick to grays to match the dress but I went with a deeper gun metal color to add some depth to my color palette. I knew I was going to wear a red lip as my pop of color so I didn't want to buy an extravagantly colored bag or necklace. Sometimes the understated look gets the job done much better.

The Damage

SOooOOoo Let's do a Tally

The Dress: $34.90
The Bag: $25 Hilary Boxy Turnlock Bag
Accessories: $12.99
Shoes: Borrowed
Tights: Previously owned ($16)

Total: ~$73!!

I think I did pretty good! And it was all worth it to see the look on my date's face ;-) I totally recommend Akira if you are looking for a hot date or party look. I picked up two other dresses so be on the look out for more date night looks from me.
